Stocks Advance After Fed Chairman Testifies

U.S. stocks advanced amid a second day of testimony from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell after he warned that rapidly rising interest rates threatened a recession. 

The S&P 500 was up 0.8% Thursday afternoon, after trading roughly flat around midday. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index rose 1.5% while the blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.4%.
